State officials say more than 3.600 requests from adoptees who are 18 or older to receive a certified copy of their original, or pre-adoption, birth certificate since Wednesday when a new law went into effect. Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker says his staff put in a lot of time to prepare for this and they will continue to work diligently to process these applications as quickly as possible, so that adoptees can have this important piece of their past.
