Green Day Reveal ‘Heart Like a Hand Grenade’ Theatrical Screenings + Release Date
Green Day have begun to figure out how their new Heart Like a Hand Grenade documentary will roll out and they've revealed the news to fans. The movie, shot by director John Roecker, is a document of the period where Green Day were recording their iconic American Idiot album.
The film actually makes its world premiere today (Oct. 8) at the 38th Mill Valley Film Festival, but will soon be available for audiences everywhere. The band has collaborated with Abramorama, Reprise Records and Vimeo to release the film theatrically in the U.S. on more than 135 screens on Oct. 15.
There will also be an exclusive Vimeo OnDemand release the following day, Oct. 16, and on Nov. 11 the film will be released in theaters around the world including Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, the U.K. and Uruguay. On Nov. 13, Reprise Records will make Heart Like a Hand Grenade available for purchase digitally and on DVD.
"We can't believe this was shot over a decade ago. Little did we know that this was only the beginning of the adventure this record would go on to be," said Billie Joe Armstrong. "We are stoked for our fans to see this footage for the first time and watch us try and figure it all out."
As previously stated, the film chronicles the making of the American Idiot album. Roecker also captured a live performance from the band as they prepared to release the massive album as well.
